Turn-key sale. Shown by Appointment Only

We have been truly blest to have had the opportunity to be stewards of this exceptional home for the past 17 years; it is now time to pass this opportunity along to others who are just as passionate as we have been about hospitality and pleasing the guests who have crossed our threshold and who have experienced the warmth, charm, and charisma of this “inn-spiring” unique property. We are looking forward to retirement with much anticipation, yet with a tug on the heartstrings as our experiences have been immeasurable.

Location, location, location—we’ve all heard this before. Well, Captain Montague’s B&B has that key ingredient for success (it has been continuously operating as a distinctive B&B for 23 years). Huron is the heart of Ohio’s north coast Vacationland situated just minutes to the area’s attractions yet away from the hubbub and noise of the surrounding locations.

Here are just some of the sites that contribute to the success of Captain Montague’s B&B:

  1. Two short blocks north to Lake Erie where there is Lakefront Park with its tree-lined picnic area and beach. Adjacent is Huron’s famous “mile-long” fishing pier and the 72 foot tall Huron Harbor Lighthouse.
  2. One block east is the Huron River with its 125-slip municipal marina with transient dockage; eateries; amphitheater that hosts entertainment, activities, and festivals throughout the summer months; large recreation and picnic area with shelters and benches for people to sit and watch the river traffic.
  3. ½ block south is the Huron Playhouse, Ohio’s oldest, continuous summer stock theater.

  4. Huron’s new award-winning boat launch and grounds—and there are no ramp or parking fees—it’s free!
  5. Within a 20-mile radius there are at least six wineries.
  6. Two miles either direction are two nationally –acclaimed nature and wildlife preserves—Old Woman Creek  to the east and Sheldon’s Marsh to the west. There at least a dozen public nature sites within a ten-mile radius both along water and inland.
  7. This prime location offers quick and easy access to a myriad of venues: all water activities—fishing, boating, kayaking and canoeing, swimming, Lake Erie Islands with nearby ferry transportation, historical sites and museums, and of course, Cedar Point Amusement Park, the roller coaster capital of the world.

This century home was built in the late 1870’s by the owner of the local lumberyard and master ship builder of the day; consequently, there are beautiful woods such as mahogany, red oak, white oak, and solid black walnut. First floor ceilings are twelve feet tall with 93” long windows and tall doors. The interior foyer doors hold the original ruby glass; the front exterior doors are original to the home as well.

Over the past seventeen years, we have lovingly restored the house and grounds, hopefully to their original grandeur. There are six large guest rooms each with private en suite bath (one on the first floor, three up the front stairs, and two up the back stairs. The common guest areas include two large parlors, a dining room that can accommodate sixteen people, a galley kitchen where guests can use the refrigerator and microwave as well as enjoy snacks and beverages provided for them, large outdoor gazebo with space for twenty, double Amish swing, in-ground swimming pool and deck, front and side porches, and ample parking with two lots.

The owners/innkeepers living quarters are on property at the rear of the home; it includes a large sitting room with fireplace, a totally renovated kitchen with modern appliances; large bedroom with walk-in closet,  and an en suite bathroom; huge workroom that houses washer and dryer; second floor office.

Updating has included new windows, new furnaces with central A/C, resurfacing of both parking lots, new pool liner, new concrete decking, and newer pool pump, all new  mature landscaping, and just this year a new roof on the house and gazebo.

Total square footage for the first and second floors is approximately 6000 square feet. The attic  covers about ¾ of the home and is fully floored and has high ceilings. The basement is approximately the same size with an access to outside. The property occupies a city block bounded on the east by Center St. and on the west by Ohio St.

Here is your opportunity to own a piece of history and to grow this established business to new heights.
